Week One of Design School

Hello Everyone!!

Well, I have officially finished my first week of Design School! Yay! I feel really good about this week and all that I have learned. I was expecting a week of torture and late nights ending in a very discouraged Emily but surprisingly enough I did not get overwhelmed and I finished the week feeling very encouraged. I started my week with a full day of videos, tutorials, and reading assignments on day one. I then took the next few days to experiment with project one and end up with a finished project that I am rather proud of. I was impressed that the weeks work really prepared me for my week one project. This week began my adventure into Adobe Illustrator with the pen tool. The pen tool allows you to draw and create curves and lines that then create shapes.

Below, is one of the tutorials leading up to my project.

Below, is my first project--
Week 1: Project 1: Self Portrait
Using a photo of me, the pen tool and a monochrome color scheme I created my Self Portrait.

Because Thanksgiving was this week, my work for week one is not actually due until Monday (Nov. 28) but everything for week two is due friday (Dec. 2) so it is going to be a busy week!! One week down, three more to go!! See you next week!!

Hello--

Well a few things have changed since the last time I posted. The application process went so well that I am actually starting school November 21st, 2011. I am unbelievably excited and scared all at the same time. I am looking forward to learning something new and fun but I am so scared of the financial half and the grades. I almost forgot that school involved grades until I was required to take an orientation course online for my school and at the end of it I was required to take a test and then in turn, received a grade. Weird. I understand that grades are part of school but this whole time I have just been looking forward to the education and doing the work, I didn't think about the fact that my work that reflected my education would be labeled. That, yep, that scares me. I am eager to learn but afraid to...well, fail. Imagine that. It is funny to me how everything life comes back full circle. I have found many times in my life that I was afraid of disappointing someone or failing. Most of my life I have been afraid of what other people will think and honestly, I am tired of it. I want to do my own thing and be my own person. I want to be the person I am and not be afraid of someone looking down on me. Here goes nothing...
